Facts I’ve learned about the Kit

Then
The first ad that I can find for this little gem is in the November 1994 issue of "Excellence" (issue #49, page 4). The script of the ad goes like this:
The next best thing to the real RS engine.  Over 500 precision diecast
parts with fully detailed instructions make an interesting and
education model that is powered by compressed air.  The authenticity is
amazing.  You even have to add oil to lubricate the moving metal
parts.  Speed is adjustable with a throttle pedal just like the original.

Now for the kicker: Price tag...
Kit with detailed instructions manual

Now
During my search for one of these kits, I've assembled the following details on them.

First off there are three different kits:
1)   "Basic" kit
This kit comes in a cardboard box, with plastic form holder for the parts.

2)    "Deluxe" kit
This kit comes in a wood box, with foam holder for the various parts.
It also included a can of air to run the kit on when you have completed it.

3)    Built motor
Not sure what loose parts came along with it.

Within those three types there appears to be a variances of a number of parts in the kits.

1)  Clear cooling shroud or red painted/colored shroud

2)  Black anodized or raw aluminum upper valve covers that are embossed with the "Porsche" script

3)  Unpainted or pre-painted red distributor cap on the distributor casting.

The one thing that does look to be common is that the Built motor only came with a red painted cooling shroud, aluminum upper valve covers, and a pre-painted distributor.  (Check out the “Random Images” section for a photo.)
The "Basic" kit that I have came with a unpainted shroud, anodized upper valve covers, and a painted distributor. Another person (Thanks Rob) let me know that he has a "Deluxe" kit with a unpainted shroud and distributor.  So they may have just mixed parts up as they were shipped out the door...   I would be very interested to hear from others if they have other combinations.
If you have any details that corroborate or refute any of this, please let me know. I'll be happy to integrate it.
