1/8th Scale Porsche 2.7RS Engine

Welcome to my page dedicated to a wonderful little model of the Porsche 2.7 liter Carerra flat 6 engine crafted by Marushin Industry.

I created this to share what I can about this kit.  These are fairly rare and expensive models so there doesn't happen to be much information on the web about, which is what I'm hoping to change.

The kit is composed of various metal and plastic castings representing the bulk of the components on the actual engine. They even include some of the tools that you need to build it. For those of you that are new, the model actually runs, though not on gasoline. The transmission houses a air motor that spins the engine letting you watch the various parts operate. The cylinder walls are open so that you can see the pistons move (and so they don't actually compress anything). Further one of the heads is built in such a manner that you can easily see the valves open and close as the piston moves back and forth (check out my links page for a video). Oh, and you have timing marks on the various components to get the timing set right, as you don’t want your little valves to crash into the pistons.

In my humble opinion, this is one VERY well engineered kit. The instructions are easy to understand (even though they are in Japanese and I can't read a word). The castings are precise with little if any flash, and have excellent detail. Assembling it has been trouble free and enjoyable...

Oh and for those of you that have been checking back, it’s been a LONG while since I’ve worked on the kit.  I’ve also been swallowed up by my model trains, so this kit has languished on my shelf for a while...
